• Award-winning haulier JF Alford Transport of Southampton has been bought by Deben Transport after 30 years in the business.
Alford was recently named NYK Line Haulier of the Year in the Southampton Port category of 700-plus movements a year; the second year running that it has won this award.
Debens closed the deal on 5 May and has taken over Aiford's premises and its fleet of around 20 vehicles.
A Debens spokesman says: "Not much will change. Drivers will continue to do the same or very similar jobs. But we are planning to vacate our existing premises in Totton and consolidate
operations at the new site," Atford's director Jim Afford says: "I've been in haulage long enough. It's time for me to take it easy. I was lucky enough to find someone who wanted to buy the business as a going concern—that's unusual these days."
