VOLVO HAS launched a concept distribution truck with a difference — it works.
The Volvo DCV is built on a 1312 bus plat' form, with 10.2m long bodywork to create a blend of bus and truck.
The 18-tonner will work for Stockholmbased haulier Schenker Akeri for five years, during which time it will be monitored by independent Swedish transportation researchers. The main benefit is that it's designed to combine the work of middleweight distribution trucks and lighter parcel vans, reducing the overall number of vehicles operating in town centre environments.
Volvo claims that there are also a number of significant ergonomic benefits for the driver, including safe and easy access through a kerbside plug door.
