Speaking to CM, Jonathan Ovens said it was clear that not many people were making much money out of “the real A to B transport” anymore. He added that with most operators making single-digit profit margins, there was little to protect them from the sort of unexpected shocks that ripped the partnership apart.
“What is changing though, is that there are now customers willing to pay a little more for good, professional service,” he said, suggesting there is hope for general hauliers.
With that in mind, and having survived the trucks being laid up last winter in lieu of an O-licence, D Mortimer & Sons, which is still running the Eat More Chips livery, can now finally face the road with its 20 artics and everything to play for.
