At a glance
We drive: Volvo’s new FH and FH16 long-haul tractors with 2,030mm interior height Globetrotter and 2,110mm standing height Globetrotter cabs with the latest I-See software for I-Shift auto box.
We like: The improved ride and handling, excellent steering and driving position, reworked dashboard and driver controls, including the electric park brake, and the new airy interiors.
We’re not sure: The new FH still hasn’t got a completely flat-floor – unlike the Mercedes-Benz Actros. And we’d like more layered cab entry steps.
We think: Make no mistake about it, the new FH is a real driver’s machine – and a happy driver usually means a happy operator. But with the advent of all its new controls and drive-line technology, a proper vehicle handover is a must to get the best out of it. CM’s bottom-line verdict? With the new FH, Volvo has listened to all the criticisms of the old model... and nailed them.
