NORTH SHIELDS firm Neilsen Fisheries is to lose its O-licence after a director told North East traffic commissioner (TC) Kevin Rooney (pictured) that he had failed to attend a scheduled public inquiry (PI) because it had “slipped his mind” .
In a written decision, following an October PI in Leeds, the TC revoked the firm’s licence for two vehicles from 30 November, and added that any application made by the directors for a new licence before October 2015 would have to be discussed at another hearing.
The PI was due to start at 10.30am but only five minutes later the clerk called one of the bosses at the operator, who said that the PI had slipped his mind and he had more urgent matters to attend to.
Vosa vehicle examiner Scott Kirkley told the hearing he had attempted to carry out a routine inspection of the company’s vehicles in December 2011.
This had not been successful, the examiner reported, because the business failed to respond to his requests to make an appointment.
Another inspection date was arranged for February this year.
However, the examiner discovered the firm had failed to make sure vehicles were given routine safety inspections on time and complete paperwork relating to vehicle defects identified by drivers.
