The conference of Monday last, under the chairmanship of Sir George Askwith; K.C., Chief Industrial Commissioner, in London, between representatives of the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., and Thos. Tilling, Ltd., on the one hand, and of the drivers and conductors on the other, lasted some six hours, and resulted in an agreement. The text of this agreement, which was signed on behalf of the L.G.O.V. by Mr. A. H. Stanley, the managing director, on 'behalf of Thos. Tilling, Ltd., byMr. Richard S. Tilling, the chairman, and on behalf of the London and Provincial Union of Licensed Vehicle Workers by Mr. A. Smith. the president, and Mr. H. A. Bywater, the general

Some 16 members of the executive committee of the men's 'Union were present. The terms were communicated to the men at various garages throughout London shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning last. We comment upon the' 'position elsewhere (pages74 and 75).
" MOTOR OMNETIT:8 EMPLOYEES " (Drivers and Conductors), London.
" 1. In view of the representations now made that the majority of the drivers and conductors in: the employmentof c2
the London General Omnibus Company Limited) and Messrs. Tilling (Limited) have become members of the London and Provincial Union of Licensed Vehicle Workers, and in view of the representations made by the executive officers of this union, that the drivers and conductors desire to abolish the present system of garage representatives, and to have any matters which may be in dispute betiveen the companies and their drivers and conductors dealt with by the union officials, the companies de not desire to raise objection to the recognition of the trade union.
" 2. Matters in dispute first to he dealt with directly between employees and their representative officers at the garage, but, failing,. agreement, the matter to be referred to the general engineer, or his nomincLe, and the officers of the union.
" 3. The companies,a`re not to be affected by disputes with companies with whom they have no direct concern.
" 4. Questions of discipline, and management are not to be interfered with, such questions not to prevent officers of the union conferring with the man agemnt on matters of wages or working conditions.
5. No objection to be taken to a union button, the button to'be worn so as not to interfere with the official-equipment.
" 6. All men now out at Messrs. Tilling's to 'resume work .in their fornier positions.
" 7. No employee to be intimidated or interfered with in the discharge of his duties by any member of the union. • " 8. Any question of interpretation of this agreement to be referred to the Chief Industrial Commissioner."
