THE Spe.nborough Engineering Co., Valley Works, Ifeckmondwike,• Yorks, has recently supplied, through Mr. J. J. Fairbairn, of Ayr, six Bedford 8-ton short-wheelbase vehicles, with the company's three-way hydraulic tipping gear, to Messrs. Carmichael, of Edinburgh.
This type of gear enables a large body space to be obtained, the body measurements, in this instance, being ft. 6 ins. by 6 ft. 9 ins., with 21-in. hinged detachable sides, which are
arranged to drop level with the platform to enable the materials to be tipped clear of the wheels.
The tailboard is hinged from the top and is easily detachable. The floor is steel-lined, with only one joint in the centre. The sub-frame is designed to afford strength with lightness, thus minimizing the tendency to warp due to uneven loading or to tipping on rough ground. An interesting feature of the tipping gear is the small amount of piping required for its operation.
