TWO large contracts from nnanufac1turers have been gained by F.. Perkins, Ltd., which -will more than offset the loss of business from Vauxhall Motors, Ltd-., who are now building their own oil. engine. This announcement is made by Mr. F. A. Perkins, chairman, in his annual statement.
The difficulties experienced in the development of...the R6 engine were overcome in 1956," be adds. . "The R6 -Mark 2 was introduced and in subsequent service the unit has proved it completely reliable and equal to the well-proven P6."
Seventy-four per cent. of output was last year exported either directly or indirectly.
Simpson and Co., Ltd., have made great strides in developing the manufacture of -Perkins. engines in India to meet -the wishes of the Indian Government_
To counteract the trend of rising costs, the company are making a concentrated effort to redesign engines where economies in production are possible. They are continuously investigating new materials and processes.
VAUXHALL PAY AWARDS
AS from today, the 13,000 hourly paid workers of Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., will receive increases. Skilled men will get an extra 4d. art hour, semi-skilled 3d. and unskilled 21d. The standard weak of the company is of 421 hours, so that skilled men will receive an additional 14s. 2d. a week.
