A haulier says that he waited five months for an insurer to pay up after his truck was written off In an accident—only to find that the insurance cheque for mere than £5,000 had been stepped by the bank.

Because his truck was covered by fully comprehensive insurance he had not expected to wait that long. But it took from November to March to deal with the claim and that was despite regular phone calls to Service."
lie has now received the money from another company, CNA Insurance Co (Europe). Neil Speake, claims manager for Bedfordshire-based Service, confirms that a batch of cheques was frozen last month; he blames this on a change in payment procedure which means cheques are now sent by CAN rather than Service.
"There were some small delays in getting replacement cheques to clients—a total loss claim would normally take four to six weeks," he adds.
