If tail-end damage is costing you dean consider fitting one of Safety Stop's automatic brak ing systems. The basic version has an air valve block attached to the chassis with a sensor at the rear: it is plumbed into the emergency or red line.
Whether the suzies are connected to a tractive unit or yard shunter, the system will activate the brakes immediately an ob stacle comes within a predetermined range. Ft will rearm during repositioning and the back-up battery is recharged automatically.
A touch-sensitive electronic rubber bumper is an optional extra which can be fitted with the automatic brake device or used on its own. Safety Stop says the automatic brake unit can be fitted in two-and-a-half hours and costs from £320.
