I normally awake at 05:50hrs and arrive at work at 06:30hrs but today the phone rings at 05:30hrs. The one vehicle that was loaded got a puncture the moment it left the yard. But looking on the bright side, at least the driver was at work on time. At 07:00hrs I have a Chat with the three mechanics and, more importantly, a cup of tea over which we set out a battle plan for the day. However, this plan quickly falls apart as the same old problems begin to emerge— people not on site for delivery or there's no space to unload the skip when we arrive there. The day settles down into its usual round of answering phone calls and reacting to customers' demands. We offer a same-day skip service over a 20-mile radius which needs a lot of quick thinking and fast reactions.
