• Hauliers running credit checks on customers who are sole traders and partnerships will need to ask permission from October or risk tough new sanctions.
Under the Data Protection Act 1998, failure to obtain permission will be an offence which could lead to unlimited fines.
The Credit Protection Association is urging hauliers to review their credit checking systems before the October deadline.
