OAF TRUCKS IS entering the 'one-stop-shop market with box and curtain-scled 7.5-tonners. The bodies will be added to the trucks at Leyland, where the LF is produced they are targeted at operators unwilling to wait for body manufacturers to complete their orders after taking delivery of the chassis-cab from the truck chassis manufacturer.
Oaf expects the vehicles to have an eight-week turnaround as the bodies will be added on the production line. Marketing director Tony Pain says: "As whole vehicle type approval [due in 20091 is introduced, operators could face more complex, lengthy and potentially costly processes to ensure their vehicles comply with the regulations for body and chassis."
On the Oaf stand is an example of what the manufacturer can produce: a Euro-5 LF-Series 45.160 with a day cab and one-stop-shop box body.
We will be offering one box or curtainsider 6.2m body to begin with, and may add other sizes in the future," says Pain. But it is unlikely that we will undertake the more specialised, lower-volume body applications — the specialist bodybuilder will always have an important role to play there."
