THIS 48-ft.-tong articulated I outfit (right) forms part of a Leyland Motor Corporation cavalcade that is driving overland from Rotterdam so the Leipzig Fair, which opens on February 28. The artic is accompanied by a Scarnmell 50-ton oilfield truck and a Triumph 2000 car. Both the heavy vehicles will compete for the Gold Medal award.
A Fleet of 18
The articulated outfit is the first of a fleet of 18 ordered by East Germany to deliver fresh pork to other European countries. The Leyland Beaver with Bankfield two-berth sleeper cab hauls a Scammell 36-ft. tandem-axle semi-trailer with a Litex refrigerated body built by Smith's Delivery Vehicles.
About 18 tons of meat will be carried on six longitudinal rails in the 1,800-cu.ft. aluminium-panelled body which is fitted with a Thermo King KL20 refrigeration unit. The outfit conforms to TIR and Transfrigoroute requirements and is built to run at 32 tons g.t.w.
