Haulier pays for heavy loss

• A shell-shocked haulier is spending hundreds of pounds to update the security of his lorry compound after having six vehicles stolen from it in the past month. Since 14 January Brian McGurk, director of Keyway in Gloucester, has lost four eight-wheeler Multilifts, a Scania artic and a Daf flatbed with a mini-digger. Only the Scania and the mini-digger have been recovered. McGurk has employed a 24-hour security team, costing £500 a week, and might extend the laser beams used in the company's main premises into the compound to prevent fur ther losses. .
The Scania was spotted in a car park behind The Prestwood Arms, a pub in Wolverhampton, a week after it was stolen. McGurk and police went to recover it and saw a Sherpa van suddenly enter the park while they were there. On seeing the police the three occupants of the van tried to reverse out, Failed and then tried to run away. Two were caught and questioned but they were released through lack of evidence.
There are still no leads on the whereabouts of the remaining five vehicles.
CI Three tippers stolen on 24 January from the premises of Knight Group in Kelvedon, Essex are still being sought—they were spotted by one of Knight's staff on the other side of the motorway that evening while he was en route to a party in Colchester.
The trucks are white and black with "Knight Group" in blue on the cab. Their registration numbers are M268 YHK, M329 VHJ and P522 MNO.
