• A truck driver and his mate had a lucky escape when their vehicle fell into a disused mine shaft in west Cornwall.
Stephen Sedgeman and Michael Siddal, who work for Chris Sedgeman Scaffolding, were delivering to a local restaurant when the front of the truck suddenly dropped. "I thought we'd had a blow-out," says Sedgeman, "but when I looked down to see a hole a metre long we leaped from the cab." When firemen eventually pulled the truck free using a bulldozer they revealed a hole 4m deep and Am across.
