THROUGHOUT my 40 years or so of managing road transport firms, I've always thought drivers provide the best ideas The comments from Lucy Radley ('View from the sharp end'. CM 5 February) simply endorse that theory.
An industry assailed by new legislation for all of those 40 years is. not surprisingly, often policed in an over-prescriptive way. How refreshing, then, to find someone who is innovative and courageous enough to apply her common sense where the prescribed model isn't working for her.
In a number of circumstances, continuous vehicle checks are preferable to the required pre-start check. Well done Lucy, and well done to the VOSA officer who endorsed her action as perfectly sensible.
Two examples of common sense in the same day. There's hope yet. Peter Lamer
