• A recovery operator is embarking on his fourth attempt to open a truckstop at J9 on the northbound carriageway of the A34 in Oxfordshire.
Les Gardiner, the owner of Weston Rescue, a local threetruck recovery business, hopes to open the truckstop by early 1996. He expects to learn by this March whether Cherwell District Council will accept his proposal to have parking space for about 180 trucks; accommodation for 100 drivers; a restaurant; a snack bar and a recreation room with billiards, darts and snooker.
Gardiner says the nearby service areas are not designed for truck drivers. His stop will charge around .C5 for overnight parking in a guarded compound or £3.25 in an unsecured area.
