FORMER STAFF at Nottingham haulier Clearway Distribution, which collapsed into administration earlier this month, are looking to claim back thousands of pounds in unpaid wages from the irm.

On 24 February, a total of six employees at the former Palletline member were due to attend a constructive dismissal hearing at an employment tribunal in the city.

One ex-member of staff, who did not wish to be named, tells CM that some of the staff members are owed up to £4,700 in inal wage payments.

He says: “Some Clearway workers left in October last year after they were not paid their wages on time, and they are determined to get back the money they are entitled to.” Clearway was sold by joint administrators Chris Stirland and Nathan Jones from FRP Advisory this month to its existing management, led by chief executive Graham Darnell.

All of the company’s 55 employees transferred under TUPE regulations to new business B2B Logistics.

Darnell is also director of another business called Darnell Logistics, which has an O-licence to run four vehicles and four trailers at a site in Firth Way, Nottingham. It is believed that the problems at Clearway mounted in recent years following the loss of work with customers such as Fiskars, 3M, and Boots.

In an attempt to trade its way out of its inancial dificulties, the company entered into a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) with creditors in December 2009, deferring just over £2m of debt.

However, in its inal set of published accounts for the year to March 2010, it posted a pre-tax loss of £1.1m, up from a loss of £219.985 the previous year. In November 2011, the CVA failed.

No one from B2B Logistics could be reached as CM went to press.
