THE owner of a one-man haulage business lost between £600 and £1,000 as a result of his licence being suspended for a speeding offence, Kidderminster County Magistrates were told last week. However, they refused an application for the suspension to be lifted.
The applicant was Maurice Edward Oliver, Hurst Green, Blackheath, Staffs, who was fined £20 and disqualified for a year, in January, for driving a lorry at over 20 m.p.h. Mr. G. F. Davies, for Oliver, said that he had been forced to employ a driver at £12 to £16 a week, and had also suffered severe loss of trade.
Insp. L. Gough said Oliver had driven a loaded lorry at 48-50 m.p.h. The police had no objection to the removal of the disqualification.
