TO meet the requirements of small service stations or garages, a fuelpump test machine has been produced by the Merlin Engineering Co., Ltd., Halifax. It is known as the Merlin Calimaster BM Universal model. The standard model costs £150.
When required solely for testing pumps fitted to B.M.C., Ford or Ferguson engines, the machine is supplied with three fixed speeds-200, 600 and 1,000 r.p.m.—together with full accessories to accommodate A and AA sizes • of pump. If B sizes are to be tested, a special mounting bracket is required.
The machine is adaptable for future servicing requirements, as infinitely variable speed drive, tachometer and a controlled fuel-feed and high-pressure phasing and timing system can be purchased, or can be fitted later by semi-skilled labour in a short time. The infinitely variable speed range is 175 r.p.m. to 1,250 r.p.m., and other ranges can be supplied to special requirements.
Mechanical governors, fuel feed pumps and fuel-injection pumps of size A, AA and B up to six cylinders of 8 mm. diameter can be tested, covering approximately 75 per cent, of automotive oil engines at present in use.
