MI Spending on bus services in Cumbria could be cut by more than 50% according to Government figures. Cumbria has been named as one of the counties likely to make the most savings following the introduction of the Transport Act in October.
Transport Minister David Mitchell says that in the fivemonth period from the end of October 1986 until March 1987, bus services should cost the county only £240,000.
This compares with the £700,000 budget for the seven-month period up to the end of October. If these figures are correct the new scheme will cut costs by £52,000.
