• A Mercedes-Benz 2548 tractor unit with a Mega Space cab, 1998 on an S plate, went for £25,500 at a huge general sale of 379 trucks and trailers held at Doncaster by Commercial Vehicle Auctions (CVA). The reserve was 123,000.
"There aren't many of them about, and bidders were practically fighting over it," says CVA managing director Chris Wright. "In the finish it was bought by a dealer who outbid an end-user."
It's rare for one 6x4 tipper to come up at auction, but two appeared at this CVA sale. Both were Iveco 26oE27s, a 1996 On an N plate and a 1998 on an R plate and the pair fetched £14,000 and £24,750 respectively. Both were equipped with Atlas grabs.
An ERF ECG Multilift hook loader, 1995 on an N plate, was sold for a respectable LG.000.
On the trailer side, a 200o-vintage 13.6m Fruehauf triaxle curtainsider with air suspension and disc brakes fetched a healthy
£13,75°. That was despite the fact that it had lettered curtains.
"The fact it also had a 9ft Gin side aperture probably explains why the buyer thought it was worth the money," says Wright.
