Driver CPC: training firms are just cashing in on us
I HAVE COMPLETED the 35-hour Driver CPC course and I have more than 25 years’ experience of Class One (sorry, CE) driving behind me.
I was a graduate upon entering the industry, have completed my CPC National and International, and have attended various courses such as ADR, Defensive Driver Training, Economical Driver Training, etc.
And now I’ve had to do the most idiotic course of them all for an experienced driver – the Driver CPC.
This training has merits for newly qualiied people entering the industry: it shows a theoretical side to what is predominantly a practical, hands-on industry (remem ber the old saying ‘no experience, no job – no job, no experience’?).
Before anyone mentions the usual saying that professional drivers improve the image of the industry by making the entry standards higher, etc – spare me.
There are hundreds of thousands of eastern European workers who would do your job and mine for half the price, if given the opportunity.
The only organisations that speak highly of this new initiative are training organisations, which are just cashing in on yet more red tape.
