RUBERY OWEN-Rockwell has now officially "launched" its automatic slack adjuster for trailer brakes. The Al tri-axle semi-trailer used for CM's 38 and 40-tonne road tests was fitted from new with these adjusters.
The adjuster completes the slack adjustment on the return stroke only, when the air in the brake chamber has been released, and forces in the brake shoe actuation system (camshaft and lever gearset) are approaching zero.
The force used to make the adjustment comes from the brake shoe return spring, and the air chamber pushrod return spring.
