Securicor/Nightspeed boast better profits

• Haulage giants Securicor and Group 4 Nightspeed have both posted improved results.
Securicor's distribution division increased its profit from £ 12.2m to £12.7m for the six months to 31 March. This was described by chairman Sir Neil Macfarlane as a "satisfactory increase", which was achieved despite the loss of two working days due to the early Easter holiday. Turnover rose by nearly 9% to L267.2m.
Securicor's new £30m "super terminal" at Hatfield, which will be capable of handling 36,000 parcels an hour, is due to open in August, E Nightspeed Services is to drop Group 4 from its name after profits tripled in 1996. From the end of June it will be known as Nightspeed Services.
Nightspeed chairman Richard Dawbarn says: "The time is right to adopt the Nightspeed name. High levels of security will, however, remain a key aspect of our operation."
Nightspeed made £2.3m in 1996 on a turnover of £30m.
