• Autofab of Brighouse, West Yorks has designed a lightweight two-car carrier on an Isuzu NPR 6.2.tonner which can be driven on a car licence, even when towing a third car on a trailer.
The first batch of six have gone to Manchester-based Motor & Legal; more are already being built.
The Isuzu weighs just 3.2 tonnes, allowing a 3.0-tonne payload. The trailer weighs less than 500kg and can take a 1.5tonne car– •with three cars on board the combination stays within its 8.2-tonne GM.
When loading up the first car drives up the pull-out ramps and onto the transporter's lowered top deck, which tilts hydraulically for the second car to enter the bottom deck.
Both cars can be driven over the trailer via interconnecting ramps if necessary.
Fully equipped the Isuzu retails at £27,745 including a 3.8-tonne worm-driven Superwinch: the trailer and fittings cost another 0,000.
The rig can be driven at up to 8.2 tonnes GTW by car drivers with grandfather rights—which means those who held licences before 1 January 1997.
It falls into the revised Cl +E category, for a vehicle between 3.5-7.5 tonnes drawing a trailer weighing more than 750kg.
