• Operators are being warned to be on their guard against non-accredited companies offering "worthless" ISO 9000 certificates.
The UK Accreditation Service says that the growing demand for certification has led to a large number of new certifying bodies, some of which are not reputable.
Some companies are issuing certificates that have no national or international standing, it says. Operators are advised to check with the UKAS register to find out if a certifying body has been accredited.
UK AS adds that if a company claims to offer both certification and consultancy, it's a sure sign that it is not accredited.
