• The new Merlin Battery Guard system prevents accidental battery flattening by disconnecting the battery from loads before it becomes completely discharged.
An intelligent management system ensures enough power is retained in the battery to allow re-starting of the engine at all times. Consisting of three main components—a switch, precision relay and microprocessor-controlled central processing unit—the Battery Guard is simple to install and operate, says Merlin.
Once the vehicle's engine is switched off, the unit starts to monitor battery condition and, if a lower than normal battery voltage is detected for longer that four minutes, an alarm is sounded and a relay automatically disconnects the battery to prevent further discharge.
A dashboard-mounted reset switch flashes to indicate the system has been activated, and must be pushed to restore the power supply so the engine can be started. There are some circuits which should not be disconnected—memories for management systems, stereos etc— and, to protect these, a fused five-amp bypass circuit remains active after Battery Guard has initiated the shutdown.
The system is supplied complete with a fitting kit.
