I feel compelled to put pen to paper regarding the final episode of the TV documentary Truckers shown on
Channel 5 on Sunday 8 March.
The programme featured Econofreight Heavy Transport moving the controversial "Angel of the North" statue from Hartlepool to Gateshead.
I have taken a keen interest in the heavy haulage industry over the past 25 years, having accumulated a vast amount of information and photographs of various equipment operators have used to undertake such moves.
flaying written three books on the subject, each of which being well-received by like-minded enthusiasts and the hauliers themselves, I was insulted to hear the comment made by the Econofreight driver aimed directly at people like myself. He described us as "sad sick people" for wanting to pursue our interest of photographingivideoing the movement of abnormal loads.
Surely in this current "anti-truck" situation within our country, such respected companies and their drivers should be encouraging more people to take a positive interest in the work which they are undertaking? Dave Lee Stoke, Plymouth
