Rigid tippers and flatbeds with Hiab or Atlas grabs are in big demand at present, reports Aiec McDade, managing director of Mac's Truck Sales.
"They're selling very well, and we're supplying a lot of them," he says. "There's a lull in the tractor unit market though, although I must admit that tractors are something that we play at rather than specialise in."
The Huddersfield-based firm fits removals van, curtainsider, and flatbed bodies. It can also stretch or shorten chassis and offers a repainting service. Mac's celebrates its 25th anniversary as a limited company this year. McDade has been in the truck trade for more than 30 years, and reflects that there have been enormous changes in the sector since the late sixties. "When I first started there were very few truck traders, and main dealers weren't into the used market," he recalls. "They certainly hoc] no idea how to value a used truck, But they're very muck into it now," These days many franchised dealers sell used examples of other marques, too.
