ADEVICE called an inverter, evolved by Smith's Delivery Vehicles Ltd., eliminates the unequal drain on the traction battery of a battery-electric vehicle resulting from tapping the battery to provide current for lamps, wiper motor, trafficators and so on.

Designed for vehicles with straight-series or solid-state control, the inverter automatically distributes the load over all the cells and thus extends battery life. Operating on either 72V or 60V input, it has an output of 12V d.c. nominal at 160 W continuous rating. Weighing only 5 lb. it measures 7+ in. by 5+ in. by 5+ in.
