• Clementson (below), the first of 14 drivers on the maiden shuttle, is keen to use the tunnel. He likes the idea of getting home earlier and avoiding sea sickness. However some drivers were more critical: Paul Matthews (right), of Church Stretton-based Burway Transport, believes that inexperienced drivers will find it difficult manoeuvring their trucks on to the shuttle. And Jeff Nixon of Stoke-on-Trent-based Brit European says the crossing was too quick for him to relax. However, it was undisputed that the club car, in which lorry drivers will be given a hot meal, from this summer, is luxurious, It gave a smooth and comfortable ride, despite drivers complaining of their ears popping as the shuttle entered the tunnel and it becoming uncomfortably hot.
