• Changes to the EC tachograph specifications are expected soon, following consultation with tacho manufacturers.
The Commission has yet to decide between the German suggestion for an electronic black box bolted to existing instruments and the French idea for an on-board computer, The EC is also looking at "smart cards", which could be inserted into a tachograph to reduce the opportunity for fraud.
