• Action is to be taken against the traffic examiner who has been under investigation for allegedly delaying prosecutions against law-breaking operators in his traffic area.
The Vehicle Inspectorate is satisified that he was not in volved in corrupt activities when he let the operators off the hook, but it is to take "appropriate action" against him. "We found no discernable pattern of collusion, it was more that he was inefficient," a senior traffic area source says, It is understood that over a two-year period about 80 operators escaped prosecution because proceedings were not started against them in time (CM22-28 October).
The traffic examiner in the case is believed to have said he was under excessive work pressure.
