• Foreign drivers in the UK are far worse than their British counterparts for hours and overloading offences, according to the Vehicle Inspectorate's latest series of checks.
Nearly 50% of the 65 foreign drivers tested were prohibited last week in the VI's fifth Operation Mermaid campaign this year. The checks targeted light goods vehicles and those carrying hazardous goods and were co-ordinated by the West Midlands Police across 88 sites nationwide. Customs & Excise and other enforcement agencies also took part.
