• Ex-haulier Howard Wledman has launched an Internet fuel service, hoping to beat down oil prices by putting fuel orders out to tender.
Hauliers logging on to www.spontnet are asked to fill in details of volumes, grades of oil and county of operation. Wiedman consolidates the data and e-mails it to suppliers, who send back prices. Operators choose from the most competitive prices.
It's a co-operative, not so much for buying but for pooling volume," says Wiadman, a former tanker driver, "At present everything is fragmented, arid it needs pulling together nationally," Wiedman hopes his service will save 0.5p/lit and that the service will grow to 25,000 registrations; his revenue will come from the annual administration fee of £15.
