• DaimlerChrysler has set up a division to handle its e-commerce and technology acquisition activities.
The company's Internet purchasing, distribution and sales operations will be handled by a subsidiary called DCX-Net.
The technology acquisition part of DaimlerChrysler's new division has a budget of 1345m.
Divisional chief Eckhard Cordes says the new holding will forge alliances, enter into joint ventures and invest to promote the company's e-commerce activities. DaimlerChrysler has already paved the e-highway by investing more than 1200m in Indianapolis software firm Powerway Inc and web site operators The Cobalt Group.
Powerway Inc aims to revamp business-to-business links with improved auto parts quality, reduced warranty costs and accelerated development of new models. DaimlerChrysler hopes to reduce waste and cut its 221bn annual parts bill.
The Cobalt Group will concentrate on the business-tocustomer sector. twill operate dealer web sites for Chrysler and Jeep.
