An HGV driver from Cranleigh in Surrey has been developing a taste for the Orient—and were not talking about his local takeaway. Eric Gallafant, who has worked for four years for Cranleigh Freight Services, recently returned from a two-week trip to Cambodia, where he was co-leader of Soapbox Expedition's Tabitha Aid Project.
While there he was in charge of a team of 13 volunteers building four stilted wooden houses.
Eric and co kept to the old when in Rome..." maxim; sleeping and eating with the locals and, most impressively, rising at 05:30hrs for a vigorous dousing with cold water.
This was my first trip to Asia. and I was immediately struck by the heat and lush green vegetation," says Eric, "I was taken aback by the local people's genuine warmth and friendliness, and hope to visit my new-found friends again soon."
