The Road Haulage Wages Council on Wednesday published Wages Order RH (89) which contains the proposals for increases in pay, subsistence and night rates recommended by the Wages Council at a meeting on July 16. There will now be a period of 14 days for objections to be made to the proposals, after which the Council will submit its final proposals to the Minister for Employment and Productivity.
The proposals made in RH (89) were detailed in CM on July 18. Briefly, they entail an increase of 10s in the basic weekly rate, a guaranteed minimum of £16 for a 40-hour week, a rise from 11d to 1s in the night work rate, a subsistence allowance raised to 25s and the progressive introduction of an extra week's holiday for long-serving employees, starting next year.
