• A device said to reduce a box van's fuel consumption by lowering the vehicle roof when running empty is in line for an industry award.
The Variable Height Vehicle was developed by Christian Robinson of Looe, Cornwall. It uses a 12V motor or hand crank to lower the roof rather than relying on more complicated hydraulics. The winner of the British Innovation Awards will be announced in December.
