• by Peter Lawton Hydraulically driven hinged roof hatches developed in Holland have got the thumbsup from Premier Foods.
The Hyva Multi-Kap system has been on trial with the bulk feed haulier on two of its United Trailer tippers. Premier Is pleased enough with the system to be considering it for some rigids as well.
Hatches fold over the load in the 44m3 trailers, providing a seal which Hyva says is both airand water-tight—a first for the system, developed in Holland 10 years ago.
Operation on the Premier trailers is from the side, but in-cab electronic control is also available. The hatches extend by B60mm from the side of the trailer during operation, and can be stopped haft open for easy cleaning. Hyva says opening requires no physical effort or climbing on the trailer, unlike traditional sheeting systems.
The system is available for all truck and tipper lengths. It weighs 250kg on a 13.6m trailer, leaving Premier with 24 tonnes of payload. Premier's air-suspended sloping-floor units also feature two moveable compartments and a Holmes 610 blower. The Scunthorpebased haulier has a 15strong fleet supplying chicken feed to more than 100 poultry breeders.
