THE NEW Mercedes-Benz 8x4 Axor 3240K is said to offer a full 20-tonne payload potential. At 9,180kg it is a tonne lighter than the Actros equivalent, and M-B has kept true to the Axor philosophy of having a more manual approach for the driver.
'the manual transmission in this case is the 16-speed overdrive, concentrating on onroad performance rather than off-road, which allows a top speed at 56mph below 1.500rpm. The Euro-3 12-litre version on the stand is rated at 40 I hp with 2,000Nm peak torque. Other options include 350 and 428hp engines which are offering 1,850 and 2,100Nm respectively.
