Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANiqnteresting and effective piston ...ring which is being very well received by many motor manufacturers, Diesel-engine makers anti shipbuilders, is the , patent "Double Seal" ring, which is marketed by Eclipse Automatic Devices, Ltd., of 173-5. Great Portland Street, London, W.1.

The cast-iron piston ring is constructed in two parts, a lower master ring having a groove running practically all around .it, into which fits the second portion, the sealing ring. The gas finds its way through an''opening, then around between the two sections, forcing the sealing ring against the walls of the cylinder.

We recently had the opportunity for testing the Double Seal rings and found the result to be eminently satisfactory. The apparatus with which the test was effected comprised a cylinder and a piston with a Double Seal ring. The apparatus was first arranged to give the result which would be obtained if an orthodox type of piston ring were used,-and we were able, with one hand, to depress the piston to its fullest extent. When, however, the ring in its patent form was tested it was necessary to jump upon the piston, but we were unable to force it the full distance.
