licence number
MIGHT I make a suggestion that the Traffic Commissioners or the Department of the Environment might do well to follow up?
Numerous operators of public service vehicles are deliberately contravening the regulations governing the operation of stage-carriage services, express services and excursions and tours by advertising unlicensed operations which operate in unfair competition with the services provided by an established licence holder who has probably fought long and hard (not to say at a great cost) for the programme of tours on his licence and has also made a large investment in his publicity and his charting and ticketing arrangements where these apply.
Why can't there be a requirement in the conditions of road service licences that on any advertisement of facilities the licence number must be quoted and prominently displayed in the advertisement, along similar lines to the Civil Aviation Authorities requirements for air tour organisers, licences?
If this were adopted great savings in Traffic Commissioners enforcement staff could be made since rather than the present long-winded arrangement of actually proving that illegal operation has taken place, the suspected operator would either be fined if he failed to display a number for an authorised operation, be easily traced if the operation . was unlicensed arid would find it very hard to falsify the reference particulars.
If the Government had adopted this proceedure earlier we might not now be paying E.45 per year for a psv licence.
