The number of French muni • cipalities banning vehicles of: more than 6 tonnes gvw is causing concern. The hauliers' association has told the Minister of Transport it deplores the cavalier fashion in which many restrictions are introduced.
Operators feel that a substantial reduction of road tolls is essential to attract more commercial traffic on to the motorways. In a number of cases locally negotiated arrangements have already brought toll reductions for lorries diverted from town
Mutes.
In the Isere region cuts from 12 to 30 per cent have been made since Cessieu banned heavy vehicles and those carrying inflammable and hazardous cargoes.
