REGULATIONS updating the method of classifying the labelling of explosives will come into effect on November 1.
The regulations will introduce a single system of classification and labelling for both commercial and military explosives and provide a framework for future legislation on explosives.
From November 1, any explosive product to be conveyed, kept or supplied, will have to be classified by the Health and Safety Executive, or, in the case of military explosives, by the Defence Secretary.
The new regulations have been adopted from the United Nations recommended system of classification and will be allowed a five-year transition period during which time the old system and the new will coexist. During this period manufacturers can opt to use either system but once they elect for a changeover, all the provisions of the Regulations will apply.
