200 evocative vintage photos
AFTER Vintage Lorry Albums 1 and 2 comes Album 3 (Frederick Warne; £7.95) — another one likely to prove popular with lorry buffs and containing a different slice of transport history, including more than 200 evocative photographs. The book is edited by Nick Baldwin, who also shares authorship of a couple of chapters: with Leylands in South Africa; and A Lifetime with Lorries.
The Album digs out out-ofthe-way stories in particular. Ever heard of TVW? Nothing to do with television! The initials stand for Transport Vehicles Warrington. "One of the more facinating stories of the haulage business is how Tom Ward, aftei a lifetime as an operator, came to be a truck maker in the Fifties," says the Album. "Peter J. Davies has been delving into the background and now has an intriguing tale to tell of transport forms, steamers, truck distributors, ERF Chinese sixes, Sentinels, TVWs and much else besides." Yes, it's a must for the buffs.
