SOME OF THE credit, if that's what it is, for the spurt that TVam is putting on in the race against BBC Breakfast Television may belong to Rentco Nationwide Trailer Rentals. The programme is going to six seaside resorts including, inevitably, Balckpool and, the blurb merchants assure me, will bring a thrill to their beaches.
That excitement comes by courtesy of Rentco, which has supplied a 40ft tandem-axle curtain sided semi-trailer, hauled by a Leyland T45 tractor, for the tour.
Blackpool has been the subject of an onslaught also by Stuart Hall, of BBC television, and more than 2,200 members of Greater Manchester Transport's Travel Companions Club for the over-50s. It has recruited 50,000 members since it was launched in April, so it clearly fills the celebrated longfelt want.
It was kind of the club not to invite me to the knees-up. The mere thought of all those mature, perspiring, shrieking citizens, led by a team of singing busmen armed with special song sheets, on the biggest coach excursion ever held in the North West makes all my teeth ache. Even the giggling Stuart Hall on his own brings me out in goose pimples.
