A publication, of the type generally: but in this case rather misleadingly, described as a brochure, has recently been brought out by Samuel Fox and Co., Ltd., Stocksbridge Works; near Sheffield, which is associated with the
United Steel Companies, Ltd. It is entitled Road Vehicle Springs, and is unquestionably one of the most attractive examples of 'trade literature of this sort that we have seen.
The subject matter is presented in such a palatable form that it holds the interest, and one finds oneself automatically reading on, There is an illustration facing nearly every page, and the book is so made up that these do not interrupt the text. In respect of publishing technique it is of the first quality.
Spring design is dealt with fully in relation to both comfort and safety, whilst considerable space is devoted to leaf arrangement, spring attachment, manufacture and maintenance, and the special features of Fox springs. Finally, there is a technical supplement containing diagrams and formulm in connection with spring stressing, etc., of a most valuable nature. Indeed, throughout the book there is much informative matter on heat treatment, the testing of spring alloys and so forth, that should be of great practical use to all automobile engineers.
